Charity Work
Throughout his career, Dr. Hoffman has given of his time and surgical skills to those who are less fortunate and in need of medical assistance.
During medical school, Dr. Hoffman helped found the Erie Family Health Center, a free clinic in Chicago that continues to provide comprehensive health care to a primarily Spanish-speaking population, regardless of ability to pay. Dr. Hoffman volunteered at the clinic, utilizing his fluency in Spanish to provide compassionate and quality care at the clinic. Early on in his tenure as Chief of Plastic Surgery at the Weill Cornell Medical Center, Dr. Hoffman created the Children's Reconstructive Surgery Center. Since its founding, accomplished surgeons in many specialties have donated their skills at the Center to care for children with congenital deformities, burns, and post cancer ablation reconstruction. Dr. Hoffman has provided his services pro bono to patients in need at the Center for a number of years.
Dr. Hoffman's extraordinary skills and international reputation were specifically sought out by Don and Deidre Imus on behalf of a child at the Imus Cattle Ranch for Kids with Cancer. A young girl of Navajo descent had lost part of her face as a result of an operation to remove a tumor and the subsequent radiation treatments. Constantly ridiculed by her peers, she was even forced to eat lunch alone at a table separate from the other students. Dr. Hoffman arranged for the girl to be brought to New York for surgery and treatment at the Children's Reconstructive Surgery Center where he performed successful complex reconstructive surgery. The surgery was a success, both from a medically and psychologically and the young girl was given a new lease on life.
Dr. Hoffman has also participated in the Healing Hands program which helps victims of terrorism in the Middle East. Dr. Hoffman has provided professional medical consulting for numerous individuals and has arranged for a number of children who have suffered devastating injuries to be brought to New York. Once here, Dr. Hoffman and his staff provide their services without fee and in each case, the child has returned home with positive life-changing results.
Dr. Hoffman's commitment to community service has extended beyond his medical practice. He has been honored by a number of organizations for his dedication to charitable causes and to those in need. His selfless pursuit towards the betterment of humanity continues to provide inspiration and hope for many.
